I too participated in the GAHR of 1976 riding my two Appaloosas from British
Columbia. Unfortunately I was unable to complete the ride due to a crisis
in my family at home but I was tied for second place at the time that I
withdrew from the race.

I would just like to say that although I never got to know Viril really
well - what I did know of him was that he was a Gentle and Honerable man
who would always go out of his way to help another rider. I cannot
remember for sure if it was Viril or someone else (but I do think it was
him) who helped me reshoe my gelding who came up with an abcess just before
the race.

I think that it is great that he and the other riders of that amazing race
are being honoured on websites now. This is the first that I have ever
heard about that historical event since it finished in 1976.

It would be an honour to meet some of the riders again.
