Remembering Virl

I saw an article about Virl Norton in the San Jose Mercury News. I went out
to his ranch on Harry Road and began a long time of having Virl as a friend
and fellow horse rider. Since I had no horses at that time Virl was nice
enough to let me ride his. Another gal named Susan also rode. We would ride
at Quicksilver and get all of his horses in shape for endurance rides. I
also had the opportunity to help him get Player and Freckles out with a
wagon and we would drive down Almaden Expressway. A few times we even
hitched up a zebra with a horse and drive down Almaden Expressway. BOY! did
that get a lot of stares and drivers backing up on the road. Sometimes we
would go up above IBM and check on his mules Leroy and Lady Eloise who
he raced in the Great American Horse Race in 1976. The 101 auction was
another favorite place of Virl's and to this day I can mention Virl's name
and I am bound to find someone who knew him or knew of him. He was quite a
horseman. There is a trail in Almaden Quicksilver park named for Virl.
